2009 racing programme

The goal of the Racing Committee for 2009 is to host simple, efficient and fun local races mixed with championships and major competitions in a blend that promotes the development of the sport of sailing for GKSS in both Gothenburg and Marstrand. The programme for 2009 is shown below. Remember that dates may change. See our website for correct dates.

5 April, Sunday Cup 1
The race is an Open Grade 5 event, 6 crews. The race will be held in Långedrag.

18-19 April, qualification for GKSS Ice Breaker
The second regatta of the year, a Match Racing event where the winner qualifies for Ice Breaker. The race is an Open Grade 4 event, 10 crews. The race will be held in Långedrag.

25-26 April, GKSS Ice Breaker
A Match Racing event with international status.
The race is an Open Grade 3 event, 4 boats, 10 crews. The race will be held in Långedrag.

8-10 May, GKSS Olympic Class Regatta (OCR)
GKSS Olympic Class Regatta with qualification for the Youth Sailing World Championships.
A race for the following classes: Laser Grade 3, Laser Radial Grade 3, 29er, 49er, Finn Dinghy Grade 3, 470 Grade 3, 420

16-17 May, Vårdraken
Race for Dragon class sailboats in Marstrand. Run-up to big event of 2010: the Dragon Gold Cup in Marstrand.

30-31 May, GKSS Spring Cup and qualification for MCS
A Match Racing event with international status, where the winner qualifies for the GKSS Match Cup Sweden!
The race is an Open Grade 3 event, 4 boats, 10 crews.

7 June, GKSS Sunday Cup 2
Match Racing event included in the Sunday Cup series.
The race is an Open Grade 5 event.

29 June - 5 July, GKSS Match Cup Sweden (MCS)
One of the most prestigious Match Racing events with international status.
The race is an Open Grade W and Women’s Grade 1 event.

22-30 July, the Marstrand Regatta / Open Swedish Championship Nordic Folkboat / Gold Cup Nordic Folkboat
Don’t miss the summer’s most fun and exciting sailing week, filled with wind, rain, sun, drama and lots of laughter. In 2009 the Gold Cup Nordic Folkboat will be arranged together with the Open Swedish Championship Nordic Folkboat, Dragon, Melges, MaxiRacer.

22-23 August, August Regatta with Club Championship for Juniors
This regatta, one of GKSS’s oldest annual regattas, will be held in the waters off Långedrag. Single-class dinghies and keelboats will compete for a number of sought-after trophies over two days. The regatta is mainly aimed at our young and promising sailors, but battle-scarred veterans are also welcome. The regatta is the club championship for GKSS juniors.

30 June, GKSS Sunday Cup 3
Match Racing event included in the Sunday Cup series.
The race is an Open Grade 5 event.

12 September GKSS September Sail - Member Sail
A wonderful club race, starting in Långedrag and finishing in Marstrand, that is sailed according to the SYL format (reverse start order according to SWE LYS). The prize ceremony will be held in the evening, which is concluded with a banquet featuring lively conversation at the tables. This is a race no member should miss.

17 -  20 September, Göteborg Offshore Race (GOR)
GKSS hosts a 24-hour ocean race with both start and finish in Marstrand. Classes: IRC, ORC Int., SWE LYS Multihull, SWE LYS>1.20. Göteborg Offshore Race is the final of the Skagerrak Cup.

19-20 September, Autumn Dragon
Don’t miss the Autumn Dragon either, a race for Dragon class sailboats in Marstrand.

3-4 October, October Regatta
In recent years we have held a number of district championships in Långedrag. This year as well, we are combining this with an open single-class keelboat regatta that goes under the name of the October Regatta. The final of the CB66 Cup will also be held.

10-11 October, GKSS Autumn Cup
The race is an Open Grade 3 event, 4 boats, 10 crews.

17-18 October, GKSS Club Championship in Match Racing
The jury is still out on which is more difficult: winning the Swedish Championship or winning the GKSS Club Championship in Match Racing. As usual the race will be held in Långedrag and is open to both women’s and men’s teams.
The race is an Open Grade 4 event.

24-25 October, GKSS Club Championship for dinghies, senior and 2.4mR
The GKSS Club Championship for dinghies is a top-level sailing race. It gives all the club’s dinghy sailors a chance to test their abilities against our elite team sailors.

7-8 November, Winter Cup
The last Match Racing Regatta of the year where we can see tough conditions and sailors performing at the highest level. The race is an Open Grade 3 event, 10 crews.

14 November, GKSS Sunday Cup Final
The final of the Match Racing Sunday Cup series.
The race is an Open Grade 5 event.
